Mango memories start at the farm
06-Oct-2009
In the top end where the air is hot and humid, the mango harvest is in full swing. And it starts here in the orchards of the far north and moves through the different mango growing areas where mango memories are grown. Mango growers, pickers and packers are reminded of this and the role they play with vibrant and bright signs meeting them at the farm gate when they arrive each day (farm gate sign below)

Starting at dawn to pick fruit in the cooler hours to keep firm and fresh, mango growers and mango pickers are treating mangoes with care. The way the fruit looks when consumers buy is largely dependant on how it’s harvested and handled in the orchard.
Once the fruit makes its way to the packing shed, the many roles in the mango harvest are reminded that the mango memories start right here (sign below displayed at packing shed). Whether it be making boxes, packing fruit, harvesting, quality control, putting stickers on fruit, stacking pallets or cleaning the packing areas – every job is important in the harvest chain and every job is part of creating a mango memory for the consumer.
