- The botanical name for the mango tree is "Mangifera indica".
- Mangoes are known as the "King of Fruits" and originated in south-east Asia.
- Mangoes were introduced into Australia during the early years of European settlement via ships trading between north Queensland and south-east Asia.
- In India, mangoes are considered to be a sacred fruit as it is thought that Buddha used to only meditate under a mango tree.
