  • The Calypso™ Mango is expected to add AUD$50 million to the value of the Australian mango industry in the next five years.
  • The botanical name for the mango tree is "Mangifera indica".
  • Mangoes are known as the "King of Fruits" and originated in south-east Asia.
  • Mangoes were introduced into Australia during the early years of European settlement via ships trading between north Queensland and south-east Asia.
  • In India, mangoes are considered to be a sacred fruit as it is thought that Buddha used to only meditate under a mango tree.
  • Unlike other types, the trees that produce Calypso™ mangoes, yield just two years after planting.
  • Mangoes belong to the same family as the cashew and pistachio nut.
  • Mango, both in its green and ripe form is a very good tenderising agent, therefore ideal to include in any marinade.
